I am Alex, and I’m 31 years old. I live in sunny Cairns with my husband and two mutts. My work days are filled with spectacular views of QLD and the Torres Strait as a Captain for a large regional airline.
How did you start in Adventure Sports?
I come from a road riding and triathlon background, but bought a mountain bike to cross- train and have always enjoyed trail running. This year is becoming a lot more off-road as I challenge myself to complete a few MTB stage races as a member of Astute Financial Racing.
What inspires you?
I like seeing people achieve things they thought they couldn’t. Just putting their heads down, ignoring the self-doubt and getting things done!
Did you get any help along the way?
More than I ever thought I could. As a member of Astute Financial Racing, I’ve had opportunities open up for me that probably wouldn’t have otherwise. The camaraderie and support from having a team behind you is a really good feeling. Also, I’ve been really lucky to find a bike shop that’s supported my crazy riding adventures for several years now. The blokes at Discovery Cycles tolerate my needs pretty well!
So what's the craziest thing you've ever done?
Agree to do the Croc Trophy this year. I’ve done a couple of Ironmans, but backing it up for multiple days in a discipline that I am fairly new at will be a massive challenge.
What's next?
Reef 2 Reef in August then the Croc in October. Throw in a 3 day road riding event in August as well. Did I say I like a challenge?
